Man, what a week it has been. I have experienced stress levels and emotional swings that I care not to experience ever again.
First, a quick update on our little fighter. Austin is up to 6 lbs, 5 oz and continues to make progress towards discharge. Since moving to the ICN the focus has been on his feeding from a bottle. Of his 50 mL feedings every 3 hours, he's been taking between 10-38 mL's from the bottle depending on his energy level. Last night he took 46 mL's and almost sucked down his first full bottle! Apparently he got the message that he needs to get his milk from the bottle in order to go home. We aren't yet sure when he'll be discharged but I think we can see the light at the end of the tunnel now.
On the home front things have been extra stressful the past week or so. I found out last Thursday that 30 positions are being eliminated from the team I work in. The Weyerhaeuser business I work for (iLevel) continues to struggle with the depressed housing market and the leadership is having to make further job cuts. Fortunately, I found out this morning that my job is safe. Words really can't express the relief I feel. I just couldn't imagine being on notice with Austin still in the hospital. Unfortunately there are 30 people, most of whom I've worked closely with for many years, who are losing their jobs this week. I've watched alot of great people lose their jobs over the past few years but this round hits really close to home. Best wishes to all of these people and their families.
Lastly, I want to say a big thank you to all of Jamie's co-workers as well as our friends and family for throwing her two wonderful baby showers over the weekend. We appreciate everyones generosity and are looking forward to putting all of the gifts to use.
Cheers....
